On Friday, April 26, 2019, Buchanan High School will be hosting Buchanan’s 24th Annual Empty Bowls Soup and Chili Supper, a fundraiser for Redbud Area Ministries’ Food Pantry that supports our neediest area families. Empty Bowls is RAM's biggest annual fundraising drive. Last year, Buchanan Elementary, Middle and High School students, area potters with the Buchanan Art Center and local business donors raised $5300 for RAM. With your generous support we can do it again.
The Empty Bowls Project is an excellent way for students to understand the value of giving. The students create and donate ceramic bowls. The community buys the bowls along with a simple soup supper and all profits go to feeding the hungry. The lesson in philanthropy learned by the students lasts a lifetime. Throughout this school year, students, staff and volunteers at Buchanan Schools have been creating bowls to donate for the soup supper. The Buchanan Art Center, in partnership with the schools, is assisting by conducting free public bowl-making workshops and coordinating local participating potters.
We invite area citizens and businesses to join us again in supporting this worthy project. Business donations help defray the costs of the clay, glazes and supplies for the supper. We also look for sponsorships for students that are unable to purchase their own creations due to economic hardship. Any extra money goes directly to RAM. When making monetary contributions, please make checks payable to Buchanan Community Schools / Empty Bowls. Please address your donation to: Buchanan Middle School, 610 West Fourth Street, Buchanan, MI 49107. Some businesses may prefer to donate materials needed to prepare the food for the soup supper. Make arrangements with Buchanan Middle School to drop off items there. Either way, please print and fill out the donor slip and return it with your donation by April 1 so that you can be properly acknowledged by letter and in our printed program which will be on the tables at the supper. All donors that attend can pick-up 2 meal tickets and 2 pottery items of your choice that can be selected at the event.
Join us at Buchanan High School on April 26 for a simple soup and chili supper from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Take home a bowl as a daily reminder that many people, even in our community, have bowls that are empty and that we can do something about it if we all work together. Thank you for your continuing support.
