Oak Ridge Cemetery is owned by the City of Buchanan, Michigan, and located on the west side of town, between Terre Coupe and Front Streets. The cemetery was established in 1864 when the original (north) ten acres were purchased. There are currently 45 acres and approximately 10,000 burials. The city may be contacted concerning cemetery matters at the Sexton’s Office in the cemetery (269-695-3971) or at City Hall (302 N. Redbud Trail, 269-695-3844). There is a cemetery page on the city’s web site.

Friends of Oak Ridge Cemetery was formed in 2003 with the primary objective of cleaning and repairing grave stones and monuments in the old part of the cemetery, and a more general objective of ‘Preserving Our Heritage.’ In 2005 we published an index to burials (revised edition available) and currently publish a quarterly newsletter. We have added informational plaques at several locations in the cemetery (Potter’s Field, The ‘Old Burying Ground’ Memorial Area, and on the north side of the Civil War cannon). Our largest project was the erection of the Front Street Entrance Sign (columns and arch).
